National Women and Girls HIV\/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) sheds light on the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and girls. This year marks the 13th annual observance.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve made tremendous progress against HIV and AIDS in the U.S., but women remain vulnerable to infection \u2014 especially\u00a0<a class=\"validating\" href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/hiv-and-aids\/women-and-hiv\/#7\" rel=\"nofollow\">African-American and Hispanic women<\/a>. Any woman who has sex can get HIV, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation. Currently, there are\u00a0<a class=\"validating\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hiv.gov\/hiv-basics\/overview\/data-and-trends\/statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">1.1 million people in the U.S. living with HIV<\/a>, and nearly\u00a0<a class=\"validating\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hiv\/pdf\/group\/gender\/women\/cdc-hiv-women.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a quarter of them are women<\/a>\u00a0(23%).<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 NWGHAAD theme, \u00ab<em>HIV Prevention Starts With Me<\/em>,\u00bb emphasizes\u00a0\u00a0<a class=\"validating\" href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/nwghaad\/about\" rel=\"nofollow\">READ MORE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Every Woman Needs to Know about HIV<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>About\u00a0<a class=\"validating\" title=\"HIV Among Women\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hiv\/group\/gender\/women\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">one in four<\/a>\u00a0people living with HIV in the United States is female.
